ACADEMIC COURSE
Academic Courses with Flexibility and Purpose
Empowering learners to progress at their own pace.
Academic Course
The primary objective of offering academic courses at DBMS Career Academy is to provide
a flexible and systematically developed educational opportunity to learners who are unable to cope
with the regular school curriculum. The Academy functions under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS),
which has a special concern for the education of girls and women, rural youth, working men and women,
students from backward and SC/ST communities, differently-abled persons, and slow learners.
Distinctive Features of NIOS
- Reaching the unreached: Education is extended to disadvantaged population groups in dispersed locations where conventional schools are not viable. DBMS Career Academy also registers students from areas such as Mosabani, Ghatshila, Kiruburu, and Joda.
- Freedom of subject choice: Students and parents are given the flexibility to choose subjects according to interest and aptitude. At the Secondary (Std. X) level, fifteen subjects are offered and students may choose any five. At the Senior Secondary (Std. XII) level, students can choose from nearly twenty subjects.
- Second chance for dropouts: The system provides a safety net for school dropouts so they do not lapse into illiteracy. Students who have failed Std. IX or had a break in their schooling are given an opportunity to resume education. Minimum age for admission is 14 years, and age is not a barrier.
- Flexible registration & assessment: A student registered with NIOS has a registration valid for five years. The credit accumulation system allows learners to pass subjects at their own pace. Question papers are bilingual (English / Hindi), ensuring better comprehension.
Academic Support & Outcomes
DBMS Career Academy is steadily progressing towards academic excellence. Each year, student registrations
continue to increase and examination results show consistent improvement. Learners completing Secondary
and Senior Secondary education through NIOS are eligible for admission into colleges across India and can
also appear for various competitive examinations. The Academy’s learner-centric approach builds confidence,
responsibility, and clarity of purpose, enabling students to successfully shape their future.
